The university is also involved in projects funded by third-party organizations like the European Union and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey. Meanwhile, its researchers hold around 12 national and 60 international patents. Bilkent also has its own technopark, which houses more than 220 tech companies and six facilities for research.

Located in Ankara, Bilkent’s main campus features a concert hall that can accommodate around 700 people and dormitories with a collective capacity of over 4,300 students. Its library has a collection of over 1.84 million books, coursed through around 189 databases, and houses an art gallery. Established in 1984, Bilkent University was founded by distinguished Turkish professor İhsan Doğramacı in an effort to build an institution that raised the academic and research standards in Ankara. Plans were made as early as the late 1960s, with many of the buildings predating the university itself. In 1986, the school admitted its first students, composed of 386 undergraduates and postgraduates.

Today, Bilkent welcomes around 12,000 students and 800 teaching staff. It has partnered with over 330 universities from all over the world for its exchange program. Meanwhile, its faculty has won numerous national awards for their research and teaching, including several winners of the TÜBİTAK Awards, Turkish Academy of Sciences Awards, and the Sedat Simavi Foundation Science Award.

Bilkent’s notable alumni include Emrah Yucel (graphic designer), Gizem Girişmen (archer), Erdem Başçı (economist), Binnur Kaya (actress), Nasuh Mahruki (mountain climber), and Hilmi Volkan Demir (scientist).

Bilkent stands as a center for learning and multidisciplinary growth, as it encourages students to become life-long learners and contributors to society’s advancement. The school also promotes extracurricular growth through its renowned programs in sports, music, and performance arts.
