Torrens University is an Australian private university with campuses in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Adelaide. It also has a campus in New Zealand. One of the youngest universities in Australia, Torrens was founded in 2013 through an act by the South Australian parliament, making it the 40th university in the country.
The university has an estimated average of 10,000 enrolled students. Torrens is registered with the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency and is a member of the Laureate International Universities.
Torrens University comprises eight schools, which include the William Blue College of Hospitality Management, Torrens University Language Centre, Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School, Billy Blue College of Design, Chifley Business School, and APM College of Business & Communication.
Through its vertical structure, Torrens University offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses in five areas of study, namely, Education, Hospitality, Health, Design and Creative Technology, and Business. Postgraduate Business courses are offered through the Chifley Business School.
For instance, the Billy Blue College of Design and the Media Design School offers degree courses and training in art and creativity, including Film & Video Design, UX & Web Design, and 3D Design & Animation. Likewise, Torren’s William Blue College of Hospitality Management offers a host of diploma, associate, and undergraduate degrees in hospitality management, tourism, and culinary management.
A unique academic unit at Torrens is the Real Madrid Graduate School, which offers different courses related to sports. The school’s programs include a Diploma of Sport Development, Bachelor of Business (in Sports Development), and two master’s courses, one of which is Master of Business in Sports Management.
The university hosts a number of research centers, including the Public Health Information Development Unit (PHIDU), the Center for Artificial Intelligence Research & Optimization, the Centre for Positive Aging & Wellness, and the Centre for Organisational Change & Agility. The PHIDU, for example, is a leading Australian research agency for providing useful information on an extensive range of crucial health data.
Aside from providing quality education and academic research, Torrens University also offers other student support programs. These include industry placement, one-on-one success coaching, and flexible online classes. Torrens is also known for keeping their classes small, for both on-campus and online classes, to allow for personalized and direct access to teaching personnel.
