Overview

Luleå University of Technology is a global university located in Scandinavia, Sweden. It is the northernmost university of technology in the country, providing world-class research and education in a variety of unique fields. It is also the only university in Sweden that offers master’s programs in space engineering and spacecraft design. In addition, it covers a broad range of programs in economics, health science, media and music, teacher education, and more.

The university is spread across four campuses. The main campus is located in Luleå, a city in the northernmost county in Sweden. Meanwhile, the space science campus is located in Kiruna, Laplan. The campus in Skellefteå houses the wood technology, 3D graphics and computer game engineering departments, whereas the campus in Piteå serves as home to the departments of music and media.

Luleå University of Technology enjoys international recognition for research competence and excellence in several areas. It has established partnerships with key institutions and organizations, such as Ericsson, Bosch, Scania, SKF, LKAB, and other leading international universities. The university currently has 50 research subjects in its Faculty of Engineering and 19 in its Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

The university also offers a wide range of master’s programs in fields like urban planning, engineering, environmental geoscience, wood technology, waste management, music performance, and spacecraft design. Many of these programs include projects carried out within leading companies.This provides students with plenty of professional experience that can help them build their CVs and gain skills for their career.

The university is also home to three prestigious student unions that promote an excellent environment for discussion and engagement. These are the Student Association of Engineering, Students' Union in Piteå, and the Luleå Students' Union. Each of these unions are divided into a number of sections, each responsible for an academic program.

The Luleå Student Union is divided into multiple sections in charge of teacher education, business administration, psychiatry, and sociology. Meanwhile, the Student Association of Engineering is mostly for students under the technology and engineering programs, which include computer science, space engineering, and geotechnical engineering.
