Overview of the University of Malta

The University of Malta (UM), officially established in 1769 although its origins date back to the 1592 Jesuit College, is Malta’s principal higher education institution. Located in Msida, near the island’s capital Valletta, UM is a publicly funded, comprehensive university with a strong commitment to both teaching and research. It serves over 11,500 students, including approximately 1,200 international students from more than 90 countries, across 14 faculties and several institutes and centers. Its main campus in Msida is complemented by satellite centers throughout Malta and Gozo. UM is recognized globally for its rigorous academic standards and its role as Malta’s key academic and research hub.
