Scope and Methodology of the Research
This ranking is based on the evaluation of 279,971 scientist profiles from a range of bibliometric sources, with a focused analysis of 50,429 scientists specializing in Engineering and Technology. To ensure the highest standards, only researchers with a D-index of at least 30 were considered, and the majority of their high-tier publications had to belong to the field of Engineering and Technology.
Scientific awards and individual achievements in the domain of Engineering and Technology were also factored into the final evaluation. To refine the selection of leading researchers, the D-index threshold for top candidates was increased by increments of 10 according to the number of scholars estimated for each specialty, guaranteeing representation of approximately the top 1% of researchers in the field. An additional requirement was set for a proximity of 30% or less between the scientist’s overall H-index and their D-index, further ensuring disciplinary focus. Awards and distinctions achieved in the relevant field were incorporated as further criteria of excellence.

Therefore, every scientist profile included in the ranking underwent meticulous manual verification and cross-comparison with publication records from a diverse array of trustworthy sources.
Though not an explicit determinant of ranking position, the number of papers published in leading journals and proceedings is recognized as a valuable complementary signal of a researcher's impact in the discipline. The ranking itself draws upon each scientist’s H-index as obtained from the two most prominent and community-vetted bibliometric databases currently available: OpenAlex and CrossRef.
