Data Sources and Bibliometric Collection
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Social Sciences and Humanities Scientists in Iran, Islamic Republic Of Ranking is primarily based on data aggregated from leading bibliometric databases, including OpenAlex and CrossRef, complemented by multiple other reputable data sources. Bibliometric data used for devising citation-based metrics were meticulously collected on January 12, 2026, ensuring that the ranking reflects the most recent and comprehensive scientific output available. Each scientist’s position within the ranking is determined by their Discipline H-index (D-index), a refined metric that considers only the papers and citation data specific to the examined discipline, thus providing a precise measure of a researcher’s impact within their field.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
This ranking was developed through the examination of 279,971 scientist profiles identified across a diverse set of bibliometric databases, spanning all scientific disciplines. Within this dataset, 3,000 scientists specializing in Social Sciences and Humanities were specifically analyzed. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist must have achieved a minimum D-index of 30, with a majority of their tier publications concentrated in the Social Sciences and Humanities domain. In addition to bibliometric metrics, notable awards and recognized achievements within the field were also taken into account to enrich the evaluation and corroborate the researcher’s standing.
The threshold for the D-index is dynamically set in increments of 10, calibrated based on the total estimated number of scholars in each discipline, ensuring that the ranking consistently incorporates the top 1% of leading experts across all fields. Furthermore, to confirm disciplinary focus, a scientist’s general H-index and D-index must not differ by more than 30%, safeguarding that the ranking reflects dedicated contributions to Social Sciences and Humanities specifically.
Verification Methodology and Data Integrity
The Research.com team recognizes the limitations that raw bibliometric data alone may impose on fully capturing the nuanced scholarly impact of researchers. To mitigate this, each scientist profile has been subjected to a rigorous manual verification process. This includes cross-correlation of publication records against a broad spectrum of credible and well-established academic sources to validate the authenticity and relevance of their scientific contributions.
While not directly influencing the numerical positioning, the volume of publications in prestigious journals and leading conference proceedings has been acknowledged as a critical secondary indicator of a scientist’s active and influential engagement within their specialized area. Positions in the ranking ultimately derive from the D-index values, calculated using data from OpenAlex and CrossRef — two of the most transparent, widely recognized, and authoritative bibliometric repositories accessible to the research community.
