Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Psychology Scientists in Romania Ranking is based primarily on data aggregated from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reputable bibliometric data sources to ensure comprehensive coverage and accuracy. The bibliometric data underlying the citation-based metrics utilized for this ranking were collected on January 12, 2026. Each scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their Discipline H-index (D-index), a refined metric that considers only the publications and citation counts relevant to the specific discipline of Psychology. This approach ensures that the ranking accurately reflects scholarly impact within the examined field rather than across all disciplines indiscriminately.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
The ranking is formulated from an extensive examination of 279,971 scientist profiles retrieved from diverse bibliometric databases, spanning all scientific disciplines. Within this scope, 2,000 scientists specializing in Psychology were identified and assessed. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist was required to have a D-index of at least 30, ensuring a baseline level of impactful scholarly contribution in Psychology. Additionally, a majority of the scientist’s tier publications needed to be substantively within the domain of Psychology. Consideration was also given to the scientist’s awards and achievements in the field to supplement bibliometric data.
The threshold for the D-index is dynamically adjusted in increments of 10 according to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline, with the primary goal of incorporating the top 1% of leading researchers. Furthermore, to maintain methodological rigor and prevent discrepancies, the difference between a scientist’s overall H-index and their Psychology-specific D-index is kept within 30%, thereby ensuring disciplinary relevance in the ranking assessment.
Verification Practices and Methodological Rigor
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot definitively evaluate scholarly output, the Research.com team has implemented thorough manual verification and cross-correlation of scientist profiles. Each profile is carefully reviewed against publication records in a wide array of trusted sources to validate the authenticity and disciplinary relevance of contributions.
While the number of publications in leading journals and conference proceedings does not directly impact the final ranking position, it serves as a valuable secondary indicator of a researcher’s influence and engagement in the Psychology community.
Ultimately, the ranking is anchored in each researcher's D-index derived from authoritative sources such as OpenAlex and CrossRef, widely regarded as the most prominent bibliometric databases accessible to the research community.
