All citation-based metrics employed to determine the rankings were collected on January 12, 2026. The core metric used to establish a scientist’s position in the ranking is the D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined variation of the traditional H-index that specifically includes only papers and citations pertinent to the Political Science discipline under examination, thus ensuring focused and discipline-relevant evaluation.
Scope of Research and Ranking Criteria
For this ranking, a total of 279,971 scientist profiles spanning all disciplines were analyzed from an extensive array of bibliometric sources. Within this broad scope, 5 scientists specialized explicitly in Political Science were identified.
To qualify for inclusion in the Political Science ranking, scientists were required to have a D-index of at least 20. In addition, the majority of their tier publications needed to be in the field of Political Science. Complementing bibliometric performance, consideration was also given to scientists’ awards and notable achievements within the discipline.
The D-index threshold for selecting top researchers is calibrated in increments of 10, based on the total estimated number of scholars within each discipline. This adjustment ensures the representation of the top 1% of leading scholars in each field. Furthermore, a scientist’s general H-index and D-index were cross-verified to maintain a proximity of 30% or less, maintaining consistency between overall impact and discipline-specific influence.
Verification and Quality Assurance Practices
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data cannot serve as an absolute measure of scholarly output and impact, the Research.com team implemented rigorous manual verification processes. Each scientist profile was individually reviewed and cross-correlated against a broad spectrum of reputable publication outlets and trusted academic sources to ensure accuracy and integrity.
While the ranking itself is primarily determined by the D-index, the volume of publications in influential journals and conference proceedings was additionally examined as a valuable secondary indicator of research contribution within Political Science. The position in the ranking is established strictly on D-index data derived from OpenAlex, CrossRef, and associated databases.
