Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Political Science Scientists in Sweden Ranking is primarily based on comprehensive bibliometric data obtained from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reputable data sources. These sources collectively provide an extensive overview of scholarly publications and citation metrics. The bibliometric data employed to devise the citation-based metrics for this ranking were collected on January 12, 2026. The ranking positions of scientists are determined by their Discipline H-index, or D-index, a refined metric that considers only publications and citation counts within the examined discipline of Political Science, thereby providing a focused and accurate reflection of scholarly impact in the relevant field.
Scope of Research and Selection Criteria
The ranking assesses a total of 279,971 scientist profiles sourced from diverse bibliometric repositories across all academic disciplines. Within this expansive dataset, 41 scientists specializing in Political Science in Sweden were identified and evaluated. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist’s D-index must be at least 20, with a majority of their tier publications classified under the domain of Political Science. In addition to bibliometric thresholds, scientists’ awards and notable achievements in the field were also taken into consideration to ensure a holistic appraisal of their contributions.
The D-index threshold for recognizing top researchers is dynamically adjusted in increments of 10 based on the total estimated number of scholars within each discipline. This approach guarantees that the top 1% of leading scholars are consistently included in the ranking. Furthermore, to maintain disciplinary relevance, the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index must not exceed 30%, ensuring the ranking accurately reflects expertise within the field of Political Science.
Verification and Validation Practices
Recognizing the inherent limitations of raw bibliometric data as an absolute measure of scholarly output, the research team behind this ranking conducted meticulous manual verification of each scientist profile. This process included cross-correlation of publication records against a broad spectrum of trustworthy academic sources to confirm accuracy and authenticity. Although the number of publications in prominent journals and conference proceedings is not a direct factor influencing the ranking position, it serves as a valuable secondary indicator of a researcher’s impact and visibility within their field.
Ultimately, the ranking positions are established based on the D-index computed from data aggregated chiefly from OpenAlex and CrossRef, which stand among the most authoritative and widely accessible bibliometric databases in the research community.
