The bibliometric data utilized to devise the citation-based metrics were collected on 2026-01-12, ensuring the most up-to-date and accurate reflection of scientific impact at the time of compilation. A scientist’s position in this ranking is determined based on their D-index (Discipline H-index), a metric that specifically considers papers and citation metrics relevant only to the examined discipline—Mathematics in this case. This guarantees that evaluation focuses on contributions strictly within the targeted research field.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
A total of 279,971 scientist profiles from a diverse array of bibliometric sources were analyzed across all disciplines, with a focused examination of 38 scientists profiling research output specifically in Mathematics. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist’s D-index had to be at least 30, and a majority of their tier publications needed to be firmly situated within the mathematical sciences. Additionally, professional awards and recognized achievements in Mathematics were taken into consideration to further validate the researcher’s prominence within the discipline.
The D-index threshold for top researchers is dynamically set in increments of 10, proportional to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline. This approach ensures that the top 1% of leading scholars in Mathematics are captured inclusively in the ranking. Furthermore, to maintain discipline-focused consistency, there must be a proximity of 30% or less between a scientist’s general H-index and their discipline-specific D-index, guaranteeing that the evaluated impact is genuinely representative of their domain-specific research profile.
