Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Law Scientists in Ireland Ranking is primarily based on comprehensive bibliometric data extracted from OpenAlex and CrossRef, two of the most prominent and widely recognized academic databases accessible to the research community. In addition to these core sources, multiple other bibliometric databases were consulted to enhance data completeness and accuracy. All citation-based metrics used to derive the ranking positions were collected on January 12, 2026. The fundamental metric determining a scientist's position is the D-index (Discipline H-index), which focuses exclusively on papers and citation metrics within the examined discipline of Law, ensuring an accurate reflection of research impact in this specific area.
Scope of Research
This ranking results from an extensive analysis of 279,971 scientist profiles identified across diverse bibliometric data sources encompassing all disciplines. Within this broad dataset, 3 scientists specializing specifically in Law in Ireland were identified and evaluated. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist’s D-index was required to be at least 20, and the majority of their tier publications had to be within the field of Law. Additionally, consideration was given to scientists’ awards and achievements relevant to the discipline.
The D-index threshold for top researchers is set in increments of 10 relative to the estimated total number of scholars per discipline. This approach ensures inclusion of approximately the top 1% of leading scholars within each field. A further criterium involved ensuring a proximity of 30% or less between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index, guaranteeing that their research impact is strongly focused within the Law discipline.
Additional Verification Practices
We acknowledge that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute instrument for assessing scholarly output. Consequently, all scientist profiles featured in the ranking underwent manual verification. This process involved meticulous cross-correlation against publications indexed in a variety of reputable, trusted sources to confirm accuracy of records and research focus.
While the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence the ranking position, it is regarded as a valuable secondary signal indicative of a scientist’s contribution to Law research. The ranking itself is firmly anchored on the rigorously calculated D-index, derived from data aggregated chiefly from OpenAlex and CrossRef.
