A scientist’s position within the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that accounts strictly for publications and citation metrics pertinent to the specific discipline under review—in this case, Immunology. This specialized focus ensures that the evaluation reflects discipline-specific scholarly impact rather than a generalized citation profile.
Scope of Research and Ranking Criteria
Our analysis examined a total of 187,135 scientist profiles sourced from diverse bibliometric repositories spanning all academic disciplines. Within this dataset, 1,124 scientists were specifically identified with a primary focus in Immunology. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, candidates were required to meet a minimum D-index threshold of 40, ensuring a high standard of scholarly influence within Immunology.
Additionally, for a scientist to be considered, the majority of their tier publications had to be within the Immunology discipline, confirming a substantive and focused research contribution. Awards and recognized achievements in Immunology were also factored into our comprehensive assessment process to better contextualize each researcher’s standing in the field.
The D-index threshold for each discipline is tailored in increments of 10, based on the estimated total number of scholars within that discipline. This approach guarantees that the top 1% of leading experts are consistently incorporated into the ranking. Furthermore, we maintain a proximity limit whereby the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index does not exceed 30%, ensuring that the discipline-specific metric accurately represents their core research output.
Additional Verification Practices
We understand that raw bibliometric data alone are insufficient to fully capture the nuanced contributions of scholarly work. To address this, all scientist profiles were manually verified and cross-correlated against publication records from a broad spectrum of reliable and authoritative sources. This rigorous verification underscores our commitment to accuracy and integrity in representing scientific excellence.
Although not directly influencing rank positions, the quantity of publications authored by a researcher in prominent journals and leading conference proceedings serves as a valuable secondary signal of their research impact and contribution within Immunology.
The ranking positions are derived using each researcher’s D-index calculated from information integrated from OpenAlex and CrossRef, which remain the most prominent bibliometric databases accessible to the research community. We invite readers to explore further details regarding our methodologies and data handling on our methodology page.
