A scientist’s position within this ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a metric that specifically accounts for publications and citations strictly within the examined discipline. This approach ensures that the evaluation is focused and relevant by considering only discipline-specific scholarly output rather than general impact.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
The ranking process examined a total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a variety of bibliometric sources across all academic disciplines, with a specific focus on 10,000 scientists actively engaged in the fields of Economics and Finance. To qualify for inclusion in the Economics and Finance ranking, a scientist’s D-index had to be at least 30, reflecting a significant level of scholarly contribution within the discipline.
Furthermore, eligibility required that the majority of an individual’s most influential publications—classified as tier publications—be concentrated within Economics and Finance. Additional consideration was given to recognized awards and notable achievements specifically related to these fields. The D-index threshold applied for identifying top researchers is adjusted in increments of 10, depending on the estimated size of the scholarly population within each discipline. This methodical calibration ensures the inclusion of the top 1% of leading experts, guaranteeing the ranking’s focus on outstanding performance.
To maintain disciplinary consistency, only scientists whose general H-index and D-index differ by 30% or less were considered. This criterion assures that the candidate’s overall scholarly influence aligns closely with their discipline-specific impact.
Verification and Methodological Rigor
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone can never fully capture the nuances of scholarly contribution, the Research.com team implemented extensive manual verification processes. All scientist profiles were rigorously reviewed and cross-validated against a broad array of trustworthy academic sources and publication records to minimize errors and misattributions.
While the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly affect a researcher’s rank, this metric serves as a valuable secondary indicator of an individual’s contributions to the advancement of Economics and Finance.
The ranking itself is fundamentally based on the D-index values calculated from the curated data drawn primarily from OpenAlex and CrossRef. These platforms represent the most prominent, accurate, and accepted bibliometric databases utilized by the global research community today.
