Data Sources and Methodology
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Economics and Finance Scientists in France Ranking is founded on a robust collection of bibliometric data primarily sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reputable databases. The citation-based metrics that form the core of this ranking were meticulously gathered on January 12, 2026. A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined using their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that accounts exclusively for papers and citation data pertinent to the examined discipline of Economics and Finance, ensuring focused and discipline-specific evaluation.
Scope of Research and Selection Criteria
Within this ranking process, a comprehensive examination was conducted encompassing 279,971 scientist profiles identified across a broad spectrum of bibliometric data sources and disciplines. Specifically within Economics and Finance, 101 scientists were rigorously evaluated. To qualify for inclusion, a scientist was required to have a D-index of at least 30, with the majority of their tier publications rooted firmly within Economics and Finance. Beyond bibliometric thresholds, recognized awards and significant achievements in the field were also factored into the review process.
The D-index threshold for top-tier researchers is set with an incremental margin of 10, calibrated according to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline. This approach guarantees that the top 1% of leading experts are incorporated into the list. Additionally, candidates were required to demonstrate a proximity of 30% or less between their general H-index and their D-index to ensure alignment between their overall research impact and discipline-specific contributions.
Verification and Validation Measures
While bibliometric data provide a quantitative foundation, the Research.com team recognizes that raw data alone cannot serve as an absolute tool for evaluating scientific output. Accordingly, all scientist profiles in the ranking were manually verified and cross-correlated against publications indexed in a wide range of trustworthy and authoritative sources to validate accuracy and relevance.
Though not a formal factor influencing the ranking position, the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings within the domain is considered a valuable secondary indicator of a researcher’s contribution to Economics and Finance.
The final position in the ranking is established through the D-index, ascertained from OpenAlex and CrossRef — two of the most prominent and widely recognized bibliometric repositories available to the research community today.
