A scientist's position within the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a specialized metric that exclusively considers a researcher’s publications and citations within the examined discipline of Economics and Finance. This approach allows for a precise evaluation of impact and productivity specific to the field, rather than general scholarly output.
Scope and Criteria of Research
The ranking examined a total of 279,971 scientist profiles aggregated across all academic disciplines from various bibliometric data sources. Within this extensive dataset, 54 scientists specializing in Economics and Finance were carefully identified and analyzed.
To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist’s D-index needed to be at least 30, with a majority of their tier publications focused on Economics and Finance. Additionally, awards and notable achievements specifically within the discipline were factored into the evaluation to provide a well-rounded assessment of individual scientific contributions.
The D-index threshold is calibrated dynamically, increasing in increments of 10 depending on the size of the scholarly community within each discipline, thereby ensuring that the top 1% of leading experts are represented. Furthermore, to confirm disciplinary focus, there is a required proximity of 30% or less between a researcher’s overall H-index and their D-index, ensuring the selected scientists maintain significant engagement and impact within Economics and Finance.
Verification Practices
Recognizing the inherent limitations of raw bibliometric data as an absolute measure of scholarly output, the Research.com team has implemented extensive manual verification processes to enhance accuracy. All scientist profiles featured in the ranking were individually reviewed and cross-correlated against publications indexed in a broad array of trusted sources.
While not a direct factor influencing ranking positions, the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings serves as an important secondary indicator of a scientist’s contribution to their discipline. This additional layer of qualitative evaluation reinforces the integrity of the ranking.
The final positioning is thus established exclusively via the D-index metric derived from the compiled data in OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most authoritative bibliometric databases accessible to the scholarly community.
