Data Sources and Bibliometric Collection
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Ecology and Evolution Scientists in Romania Ranking is primarily derived from comprehensive bibliometric data aggregated from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reliable sources. These platforms represent some of the most extensive and authoritative databases available to the research community, ensuring broad coverage and accuracy in capturing scholarly output. Bibliometric data used to compute citation-based metrics, which underpin this ranking, were collected on January 12, 2026. The ranking methodology centers on the D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that accounts exclusively for publications and citations within the specific discipline of Ecology and Evolution, thereby providing a more focused and relevant measure of a scientist’s impact in this area.
Scope of Research and Ranking Criteria
An expansive pool of 279,971 scientist profiles, identified from a diverse set of bibliometric data sources, was analyzed across all scientific disciplines. Specifically, within Ecology and Evolution, 3,049 scientist profiles were examined. To qualify for inclusion in this ranking, a researcher must hold a D-index of at least 30, with the majority of their tier publications demonstrably situated within Ecology and Evolution. Additionally, awards and notable achievements in the field were assessed as supplementary criteria.
The threshold for the D-index is dynamically adjusted in increments of 10 according to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline. This adaptive criterion ensures that the list consistently represents the top 1% of leading scholars in their respective fields. Furthermore, a proximity constraint requires that the difference between a scientist’s overall general H-index and their discipline-specific D-index not exceed 30%, reinforcing the focus on domain-specific expertise.
Verification and Validation Procedures
The Research.com team acknowledges that raw bibliometric data should never serve as the sole metric for evaluating scientific contributions. To safeguard the integrity of the ranking, every scientist profile was meticulously manually verified and cross-correlated against publications indexed in a wide range of trusted sources. Although the number of publications in prominent journals and conference proceedings is not a direct factor affecting ranking position, it is recognized as a valuable secondary indicator of scholarly contribution within Ecology and Evolution.
Positioning in the ranking is ultimately determined by the researcher’s D-index—calculated from data sourced primarily from OpenAlex and CrossRef, regarded as the most prominent bibliometric repositories available. Interested readers and stakeholders are encouraged to consult our methodology page for a detailed overview of the methodological framework guiding this ranking’s creation.
