All bibliometric data used to construct the citation-based metrics for this ranking were collected on January 12, 2026. The ranking of each scientist is determined by their Discipline H-index (D-index), which measures impact solely within the specified discipline. This means that only papers and citations categorized under Business and Management contribute to the D-index, ensuring a focused evaluation relevant to the domain.
Scope and Criteria of the Ranking
The ranking methodology examined a total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified across a variety of bibliometric data sources spanning all disciplines. Within this vast dataset, specifically 1,179 scientists were identified in the field of Business and Management. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a researcher must have achieved a D-index of at least 30, with the majority of their tier publications firmly situated in Business and Management.
Additionally, consideration was given to scientists’ awards and achievements in the Business and Management field to enhance the robustness of the evaluation process. The threshold D-index cutoff is dynamically adjusted in increments of 10 based on the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline. This calibration guarantees that the top 1% of leading scholars are included in the list, maintaining a competitive and elite cohort.
Furthermore, to ensure the disciplinary focus is consistent, the ranking includes only those researchers whose D-index closely approximates their general H-index, with a maximum allowable divergence of 30%. This proximity criterion helps confirm the researcher's sustained engagement and impact within Business and Management.
Additional Verification Practices
The Research.com team recognizes that raw bibliometric data alone cannot fully encapsulate the scholarly output or quality of individual researchers. Consequently, all scientist profiles were manually verified and cross-referenced against publications listed in a broad range of trustworthy academic sources. This meticulous cross-correlation bolsters the credibility and accuracy of the ranking.
While the number of published papers in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly affect the position within the ranking, it provides a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s contribution and influence in their area of expertise.
The final positions in the ranking are established according to each researcher’s D-index as derived from the data aggregated principally from OpenAlex and CrossRef, which are recognized as leading bibliometric databases openly accessible to the research community.
