Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Business and Management Scientists in Trinidad and Tobago Ranking is primarily based on comprehensive bibliometric data drawn from OpenAlex and CrossRef, along with multiple other trusted data sources. These platforms represent some of the most prominent and widely recognized databases within the research community, enabling reliable collection and analysis of scholarly outputs. The citation-based metrics used to formulate the ranking were compiled on January 12, 2026, ensuring the data reflects the most current scientific landscape at the time of compilation.
A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that specifically accounts for a researcher’s publication and citation performance within the examined discipline of Business and Management. By focusing solely on discipline-relevant outputs, the D-index provides a more precise and meaningful evaluation of a researcher’s impact within their specialized area of study.
Scope of Research and Eligibility Criteria
To establish the ranking, an extensive examination was conducted on 279,971 scientist profiles identified across all disciplines from a diverse array of bibliometric data sources. Within this broad dataset, 1,193 scientists from Business and Management were specifically considered for inclusion.
Qualification for the ranking required each scientist to have a D-index of at least 30. Additionally, a majority of their tier publications needed to be within the Business and Management discipline to ensure focused expertise. Supplementing these quantitative requirements, scientists’ notable awards and achievements within the field were also factored into the overall assessment.
The threshold of a minimum D-index of 30 serves as part of a scalable criterion where increments of 10 above this baseline are applied based on the estimated total number of active scholars in each discipline. This graduated approach guarantees inclusion of the top 1% of leading experts in the respective area. Furthermore, to maintain alignment between general and discipline-focused impact, a proximity of 30% or less between a scientist’s overall H-index and their D-index was enforced.
Additional Verification and Methodological Rigor
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone is insufficient for a definitive evaluation of scholarly output, the research team has applied meticulous manual verification procedures. Each scientist’s profile was cross-referenced against publications indexed in a wide range of reputable sources to confirm accuracy and legitimacy. This practice ensures the integrity and reliability of the ranking beyond automated data capture.
While the number of publications in prestigious journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence the ranking position, it serves as a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s contributions to Business and Management research. Ultimately, the ranking’s position assignments rely on the D-index derived from carefully curated data within OpenAlex and CrossRef.
