A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined bibliometric indicator that considers only those publications and citation metrics directly relevant to the examined discipline. This targeted approach enables a more precise and meaningful assessment of a researcher’s impact within the specific field of Business and Management.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
Our analysis encompassed 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a variety of bibliometric databases, covering all scholarly disciplines. From this extensive pool, 1,279 scientists specialized in the field of Business and Management were examined in detail.
To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a researcher must have a D-index of at least 30. Additionally, the majority of their tier publications were required to be within Business and Management, ensuring a focus on domain-specific research contributions. Recognitions such as awards and notable achievements in the Business and Management field were also taken into account during the evaluation process.
The D-index inclusion threshold is set in increments of 10 according to the total estimated number of scholars within each discipline, while guaranteeing representation of the top 1% of leading researchers. Furthermore, to ensure disciplinary relevance, a researcher’s D-index must be within 30% or less of their general H-index, maintaining a proximity that signifies a concentrated research impact within the field.
Additional Verification Practices
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot definitively measure scholarly output, the Research.com team undertook meticulous manual verification of all scientist profiles included in the ranking. Each profile was cross-correlated against publications documented in a wide range of trustworthy, authoritative sources to confirm accuracy and consistency.
While not directly influencing ranking positions, the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings is presented as an essential secondary indicator of a scientist’s contribution to the Business and Management discipline.
The ranking is ultimately established by applying each researcher’s D-index, as derived from data compiled primarily through OpenAlex and CrossRef — two of the most prominent and respected bibliometric databases available to the scientific community. Researchers and institutions seeking further insight into the methodology are encouraged to consult our methodology page.
