A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined using their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined bibliometric indicator that includes only papers and citation metrics specific to the examined discipline—in this case, Business and Management. This discipline-focused approach ensures that the ranking reflects domain-specific research impact rather than generalized citation counts.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
The ranking methodology entailed the examination of 279,971 scientist profiles aggregated from a broad spectrum of bibliometric data sources across all academic disciplines. Within this extensive dataset, 1,256 scientists specifically from the field of Business and Management were identified and assessed.
To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist’s D-index had to meet or exceed a threshold of 30. Additionally, a majority of their tier publications needed to be within the domain of Business and Management. Beyond citation metrics, the consideration of researchers’ awards and professional achievements within the field also contributed to eligibility.
The D-index threshold is dynamically set in increments of 10, calibrated according to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline, with the objective of consistently incorporating the top 1% of leading scholars. A further qualification criterion requires that the disparity between a scientist’s general H-index and their discipline-specific D-index remain within 30%, ensuring a strong correlation between overall and discipline-focused research performance.
Verification and Assurance Practices
Recognizing the inherent limitations of relying solely on raw bibliometric data, the Research.com team undertook rigorous manual verification of all scientist profiles included in the ranking. This process involved cross-correlation of publication records against a wide range of reputable and trustworthy publication sources, thereby ensuring the integrity and robustness of the dataset.
While the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings is not directly factored into the ranking position, it serves as a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s contribution and influence within their research area.
The final rankings are grounded in each researcher’s D-index as calculated from data sourced principally from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most prominent and widely respected bibliometric databases accessible to the global research community.
