Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Biology and Biochemistry Scientists in Saudi Arabia Ranking is underpinned by comprehensive bibliometric data primarily derived from OpenAlex and CrossRef, alongside multiple other reputable data sources. The citation-based metrics employed in this ranking were collected on January 12, 2026, ensuring the most current and robust data set available for analysis. A scientist’s position in this ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a metric that selectively measures academic impact by including only the papers and citation records pertinent to the specific discipline of Biology and Biochemistry.
Scope of Research and Eligibility Criteria
The ranking process involved an extensive examination of 188,046 scientist profiles aggregated from a variety of bibliometric databases across all disciplines. Within this dataset, 13 scientists specializing in Biology and Biochemistry were meticulously assessed. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a candidate’s D-index had to be at least 40, and the majority of their tier publications needed to be within the realm of Biology and Biochemistry. In addition to bibliometric indicators, a scientist’s awards and achievements in the discipline were also carefully considered.
The threshold for the D-index is calibrated with a stepwise increment of 10 based on the total number of scholars estimated in each discipline, ensuring that the top 1% of leading researchers are consistently represented in the rankings. Furthermore, a proximity criterion is applied whereby the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index should be 30% or less, securing disciplinary focus while reflecting overall academic impact.
Verification and Validation Practices
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot fully capture the nuanced contributions of researchers, the Research.com team performs rigorous manual verification of all scientist profiles. Each profile is cross-referenced against publications listed in a broad array of trustworthy and authoritative sources to enhance accuracy and reliability. Although not directly affecting a researcher’s position in the ranking, the number of publications in prominent journals and conference proceedings is recognized as a valuable secondary signal of scholarly contribution within the specific scientific field.
The ranking positions are established exclusively using each researcher’s D-index based on data obtained from OpenAlex and CrossRef, the most prominent and widely trusted bibliometric databases available to the research community.
