Soils and Foundations was organized to reinforce research efforts on Geotechnical engineering, Structural engineering, Soil water, Consolidation (soil) and Pore water pressure. While Geotechnical engineering is the focus of it, it also provided insights into the studies of Shear (geology), Triaxial shear test and Soil mechanics. While the journal focused on Shear (geology), it was also able to explore topics like Shear modulus and Shear stress.
The journal focused on Triaxial shear test research but expanded to cover Stress path. Soils and Foundations facilitated presentations on Structural engineering research, particularly Finite element method, Bearing capacity, Foundation (engineering) and Stiffness. Soil test is a major topic of Soil water research presented in Soils and Foundations.
Research on Pore water pressure addressed in it frequently intersections with the field of Effective stress.
The published papers mostly deal with topics like Geotechnical engineering, Shear (geology), Triaxial shear test, Liquefaction and Structural engineering. The most cited articles address concerns in Geotechnical engineering which are intertwined with other disciplines, such as Soil water, Soil mechanics and Shear stress. The journal publications focus on Triaxial shear test but also tackle concerns of closely connected disciplines like
The discussions in Soils and Foundations mainly cover the fields of Geotechnical engineering, Soil water, Shear (sheet metal), Pile and Composite material. Many of the studies tackled connect Geotechnical engineering with a similar field of study like Stiffness. It explores issues in Soil water which can be linked to other research areas like Void ratio, Absorption of water and Water content.
The journal explores research in Simple shear and overlapping concepts in Relative density to expand the discourse in Shear (sheet metal). The studies on Pile discussed can also contribute to research in the domains of Mechanics, Finite element method, Moment (mathematics) and Foundation (engineering). Research in Effective stress and the interrelating topic of Liquefaction and Constitutive equation were among the subjects of interest in the Stress (mechanics) studies discussed in the journal.
A key indicator for each journal is its effectiveness in reaching other researchers with the papers published at that venue.
The chart below presents the interquartile range (first quartile 25%, median 50% and third quartile 75%) of the number of citations of articles over time.
The top authors publishing in Soils and Foundations (based on the number of publications) are:
The overall trend for top authors publishing in this journal is outlined below. The chart shows the number of publications at each edition of the journal for top authors.
Only papers with recognized affiliations are considered
The top affiliations publishing in Soils and Foundations (based on the number of publications) are:
The overall trend for top affiliations publishing in this journal is outlined below. The chart shows the number of publications at each edition of the journal for top affiliations.
The publication chance index shows the ratio of articles published by the best research institutions in the journal edition to all articles published within that journal. The best research institutions were selected based on the largest number of articles published during all editions of the journal.
The chart below presents the percentage ratio of articles from top institutions (based on their ranking of total papers).Top affiliations were grouped by their rank into the following tiers: top 1-10, top 11-20, top 21-50, and top 51+. Only articles with a recognized affiliation are considered.
During the most recent 2021 edition, 8.18% of publications had an unrecognized affiliation. Out of the publications with recognized affiliations, 31.68% were posted by at least one author from the top 10 institutions publishing in the journal. Another 14.85% included authors affiliated with research institutions from the top 11-20 affiliations. Institutions from the 21-50 range included 11.88% of all publications and 41.58% were from other institutions.
A very common phenomenon observed among researchers publishing scientific articles is the intentional selection of journals they have already attended in the past. In particular, it is worth analyzing the case when the authors participate in the same journal from year to year.
The Returning Authors Index presented below illustrates the ratio of authors who participated in both a given as well as the previous edition of the journal in relation to all participants in a given year.
The graph below shows the Returning Institution Index, illustrating the ratio of institutions that participated in both a given and the previous edition of the conference in relation to all affiliations present in a given year.
Our experience to innovation index was created to show a cross-section of the experience level of authors publishing in a journal. The index includes the authors publishing at the last edition of a journal, grouped by total number of publications throughout their academic career (P) and the total number of citations of these publications ever received (C).
The group intervals were selected empirically to best show the diversity of the authors' experiences, their labels were selected as a convenience, not as judgment. The authors were divided into the following groups:
The chart below illustrates experience levels of first authors in cases of publications with multiple authors.

(2021)Pursuing a degree in Engineering and Technology opens doors to various specialized fields and leadership roles. For example, professionals interested in managing complex construction projects may consider an accelerated construction management degree online. This pathway focuses on streamlining project schedules and optimizing resources, crucial skills in today’s fast-paced industry.
On the management side, many engineers transition into roles that require strong organizational and people skills. A masters in human resources online can equip students with knowledge to effectively handle workforce planning and employee relations within tech companies.
Entrepreneurial engineers often pursue an mba for entrepreneurs to develop business acumen, helping them launch startups or lead innovation within organizations. Complementing these skills, a project management degree provides essential tools to oversee projects efficiently, ensuring goals are met on time and within budget.
Exploring these related online degrees can enhance career prospects and open new pathways for those in engineering and technology fields seeking growth beyond traditional technical roles.
