Overview of Gulf University for Science & Technology (GUST)
Gulf University for Science & Technology (GUST), established in 2002, is Kuwait’s first private university. Located in West Mishref, Kuwait City, GUST was founded in response to national demand for high-quality tertiary education rooted in international standards. Presently, the institution hosts over 4,000 students and employs a faculty of around 180 from more than 30 nationalities. GUST operates a single, state-of-the-art urban campus and positions itself as a comprehensive, teaching-focused university, strengthening Kuwait’s academic landscape and contributing to regional capacity-building.
Academic Strengths and Structure
GUST offers a diverse array of undergraduate and graduate programs through its main colleges: Arts & Sciences and Business Administration. Its business and computer science programs are particularly strong, with the College of Business Administration accredited by AACSB International—an achievement held by less than 5% of business schools worldwide. GUST’s curriculum is rooted in an American-style liberal arts philosophy, integrating interdisciplinary learning and emphasizing critical thinking and independent research. The university maintains collaborative agreements with prominent international institutions, including a landmark partnership with the University of Missouri–St. Louis for dual degree offerings. GUST demonstrates growing research activity, particularly in applied sciences and regional studies, and annually hosts conferences heightening its research profile across the Gulf region.
Student Life and Community
GUST fosters a vibrant campus community with over 50 student-run clubs and organizations spanning interests in culture, technology, entrepreneurship, and the arts. The university regularly holds cultural festivals, sporting events, and speaker series, supporting an engaged and inclusive environment. On-campus amenities include modern housing, health and counseling services, and extensive athletic facilities—encouraging student wellness and social engagement. GUST is renowned for its diverse student body, with a focus on internationalization and intercultural understanding, offering exchange programs, language centers, and robust support services tailored to both local and international students.
Mission, Vision, and Values
GUST’s mission is to cultivate globally minded graduates through world-class teaching, research, and community engagement, upholding values of integrity, collaboration, and innovation.
