Institutional positions in the ranking are determined by summing the D-indexes (Discipline H-index) for all ranking scholars at each institution whose primary publication focus is Psychology. The D-index is a unique metric that accounts exclusively for publications and citations within the specific discipline under examination, ensuring a focused and relevant assessment of research output.
Scope of Research Covered by the Ranking
To ensure comprehensive and high-quality coverage, this ranking analyzed a total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a broad spectrum of bibliometric resources. Of these, 38,989 scientists specializing in Psychology were selected for closer scrutiny.
Key criteria included a minimum qualifying D-index threshold of 30 for each scientist, as well as a majority of their scholarly output being published in the field of Psychology. Additionally, individual scientists’ awards and achievements in Psychology were considered as contributing factors. The D-index threshold for highlighting top researchers was dynamically adjusted in increments of 10 according to the total number of scholars in each discipline. This adaptive process ensures that the top 1% of leading scholars are recognized within the ranking. To maintain disciplinary specificity, the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and D-index was required to stay within a proximity of 30% or less. Recognition of outstanding achievements and accolades in the researchers’ field of study was also incorporated in the evaluation process.
Verification and Quality Assurance Practices
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone is insufficient for a complete evaluation of scholarly output, the Research.com team has implemented a multi-layered approach to verification. All scientist profiles were manually verified and cross-correlated with publications indexed across an extensive range of reputable sources.
While the sheer number of papers published in distinguished journals and conference proceedings does not affect a researcher’s rank in the Research.com framework, it provides a valuable secondary indication of research contribution within Psychology.
Ranking positions are established using each researcher's H-index, sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, recognized as two of the most prominent bibliometric databases available to the scholarly community. This meticulous combination of data-driven and manual processes underscores our commitment to fairness and accuracy.
