An institution's position in the ranking is determined by the aggregate D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all affiliated scholars whose primary research output lies within Political Science. The D-index is calculated exclusively from publications and citation data relevant to the Political Science discipline, ensuring a focused and discipline-specific metric for evaluation.
Scope of Research and Methodological Criteria
This edition reviewed extensive data encompassing 279,971 scientist profiles sourced from a wide range of bibliometric data resources. From this pool, 2,158 scientists specializing in Political Science were systematically analyzed. To ensure both quality and field relevance, the qualifying D-index threshold for each scientist was established at 20, with the added requirement that a majority of their top-tier publications are in Political Science.
Scientist awards and achievements specific to the field were also integrated into the evaluation. The minimum D-index for consideration among top researchers is set as increments of 10, reflective of the total scholar count per discipline, and is calibrated to guarantee representation of at least the top 1% of leading scholars in each field. Further, a proximity criterion ensures that the gap between each scientist’s general H-index and their D-index does not exceed 30%, offering an additional control for discipline relevance.
Verification and Data Integrity Practices
Recognizing the limitations of raw bibliometric data, our researchers undertook thorough manual verification of all scientist profiles, cross-referencing publication records across an extensive array of esteemed sources. Although publication count in major journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence a researcher’s rank, it is acknowledged as a valuable secondary indicator of scholarly impact.
The principal criterion for ranking involves the H-index—sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef—both of which are internationally recognized as reliable and comprehensive citation databases for the research community.
