The citation-based metrics, which underpin the overall ranking framework, were derived from bibliometric data collected as of 2024-11-27.
Institutional ranking positions are determined by aggregating the D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all scholars affiliated with a given institution whose primary publication focus is Genetics. The D-index is a rigorously discipline-specific metric—only Genetics-related publications and citations are considered for its calculation. This approach ensures that the ranking reflects genuine, subject-specific scholarly impact.
Scope of Research Included in the Ranking
To guarantee accuracy and inclusivity, the ranking process involved the review of 279,971 scientist profiles sourced from diverse bibliometric platforms. Of these, 7,415 scientists specializing in Genetics were subjected to in-depth analysis. To ensure excellence and relevance:
- The minimum qualifying D-index threshold per scientist was set at 40.
- A majority of each scholar's publications needed to be within the field of Genetics.
- Scientists' awards and notable achievements in Genetics were also accounted for in the evaluation.
- The D-index threshold for top researchers is incrementally set (in steps of 10), tailored by the total population of scholars in each discipline, while guaranteeing that the leading top 1% of scientists make the list.
- A proximity of 30% or less is required between the general H-index and the D-index, attesting to a scholar’s focused impact in Genetics.
This stringent approach ensures that only those with exceptional and discipline-specific scientific influence are centralized in the ranking.

The Research.com team recognizes the inherent limitations of relying solely on quantitative bibliometric data for evaluating scholarly output.
