Introduction to the 4th Edition of Research.com Best Engineering and Technology Universities in Brazil Ranking
The 4th edition of the Research.com Best Engineering and Technology Universities in Brazil Ranking is founded on rigorous data collection and analysis, primarily utilizing the OpenAlex and CrossRef bibliometric databases, along with numerous supplementary sources. These data repositories are recognized for their comprehensiveness and reliability within the research community. The key bibliometric data necessary for crafting our citation-based metrics were collected on 2024-11-27.
Each institution’s position in the ranking is determined by the aggregate D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all ranking scholars affiliated with that institution whose primary field of publication is Engineering and Technology. The D-index comprehensively reflects only the publications and citation data pertinent to the examined discipline, providing an accurate portrayal of subject-specific research output and impact.
Scope of Research Considered
To ensure inclusivity and rigor, the ranking team examined 279,971 scientist profiles sourced from various bibliometric data providers. Within the discipline of Engineering and Technology, a focused analysis was conducted on 50,429 scientists. Eligibility for inclusion required each scholar to surpass a qualifying D-index of 30, with a majority of their tier publications falling within Engineering and Technology.
Further selectivity was applied based on each scientist’s awards and achievements in Engineering and Technology. The D-index cutoff for recognizing top researchers is dynamically set, increasing in increments of 10 relative to the total number of scholars in each discipline, always ensuring the inclusion of the top 1% of leading experts. Only profiles where the disparity between a scientist’s general H-index and their discipline-specific D-index did not exceed 30% were considered, thereby confirming a strong subject-area alignment. In addition, a candidate’s accolades and field-specific honors were carefully evaluated as a supplementary consideration.
Robust Verification Practices
Recognizing the inherent limitations of statistical and bibliometric data, Research.com undertook a robust verification process. All scientist profiles underwent manual review and cross-referencing against a diverse set of reputable sources to ensure the utmost accuracy. While publication count in major journals and conference proceedings is not a direct metric for ranking placement, it is acknowledged as an important secondary signal of a scientist’s field-specific impact.
Ranking results rely on the authoritative H-index data derived from the OpenAlex and CrossRef databases, both of which set the standard for bibliometric tracking in the research community.
