Each institution’s position in the ranking is determined by the sum of D-indexes (Discipline H-index) attributed to all affiliated scholars whose primary research area is in Business and Management. The D-index exclusively considers publications and citations within the specific discipline examined, ensuring that only relevant scholarly impact is reflected in the results.
Scope of Research Analyzed in the Ranking
The 2024 assessment covers a rigorous examination of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a broad spectrum of bibliometric data sources. Within this dataset, 9,829 scientists specializing in Business and Management were analyzed. To qualify for inclusion, a scholar’s D-index was required to meet or exceed a threshold of 30, and the majority of their top-tier publications had to be concentrated in Business and Management. In addition to bibliometric factors, scientists' awards and achievements in the discipline were also considered.
To ensure the most relevant experts were captured, the D-index threshold for identifying top researchers is set as a moving increment of 10, calibrated for the total number of scholars in each discipline; this approach guarantees that the top 1% of leading scholars are represented. Furthermore, there must be a proximity of 30% or less between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index, affirming that their impact is specialized in the evaluated discipline of Business and Management. Achievements and recognitions in the field further inform the selection process.
Verification and Validation of Results
The research team behind the ranking recognizes that raw bibliometric data, while informative, is not an absolute instrument for evaluating scientific output. Accordingly, every scientist profile was manually reviewed, and each result was cross-validated against multiple authoritative publication sources to maximize credibility. Although not a direct factor in determining a scientist’s rank, the number of papers published in leading journals and conference proceedings serves as a valuable supporting indicator of scientific impact in Business and Management.
Researcher positions were established using H-index values obtained primarily from OpenAlex and CrossRef, recognized as the most prominent and reliable databases in the research community. For an in-depth review of criteria and processes, we invite you to visit our methodology page.
