Data Sources and Metrics Used in the 3rd Edition of the Research.com Best Universities in France Ranking
The 3rd edition of the Research.com Best Universities in France Ranking is grounded in the robust analysis of bibliometric data sourced primarily from OpenAlex and CrossRef, in addition to multiple other reputable data sources. Bibliometric data critical for the calculation of citation-based indicators were gathered as of November 27, 2024. The key metric underpinning an institution's position in the ranking is the aggregate sum of D-indexes (Discipline H-index) for all qualified ranking scholars affiliated with the institution. The D-index metric incorporates only those publications and citations relevant to the examined discipline, ensuring field-specific accuracy, while still considering scientists from all major areas of research.
Scope of Research and Profile Selection
The ranking draws upon a comprehensive evaluation of 279,971 scientist profiles identified across diverse bibliometric repositories. These profiles span all major scientific disciplines, enabling a truly holistic assessment of institutional research excellence. To qualify for consideration, each scientist needed to meet or exceed a minimum D-index threshold of 20 within their specific discipline. In addition to bibliometric performance, the analysis also took into account notable awards and scientific achievements within a scholar’s respective field of study.
Additional Verification and Evaluation Practices
The Research.com team is acutely aware that bibliometric data alone cannot capture the full scope of a scholar’s impact or contribution. For this reason, all scientist profiles underwent thorough manual verification and were cross-referenced with publications listed in an extensive array of reliable and well-established sources. While the number of papers published in leading journals and reputable conference proceedings does not directly affect a scholar’s position in the Research.com ranking, this metric nonetheless serves as a valuable secondary indicator of a researcher’s influence in their field.
Each researcher's H-index is established based on comprehensive data compiled from OpenAlex and CrossRef—the most recognized and authoritative bibliometric databases currently available to the research community. Positioning in the institutional ranking is subsequently determined through these rigorously verified data points. To find out more about the methodology, please refer to our methodology page.
