Data Sources and Bibliometric Basis
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Psychology Scientists in Colombia Ranking is primarily based on comprehensive bibliometric data collected from OpenAlex and CrossRef, alongside multiple additional reputable sources. These platforms represent the most extensive and up-to-date repositories of scholarly publications and citation metrics accessible to the global research community. The bibliometric data utilized for calculating citation-based metrics were systematically collected on January 12, 2026. Researchers’ positioning within the ranking is determined by the Discipline H-index (D-index), a specialized metric that reflects a scientist’s impact exclusively within the specified discipline of Psychology, considering only relevant publications and their citations in that field.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
An expansive analysis was conducted encompassing 279,971 scientist profiles compiled from diverse bibliometric data sources across all scientific disciplines. Among these, 1,000 scientists specializing in Psychology were identified and evaluated for ranking inclusion. To qualify, a scientist's D-index in Psychology had to meet a minimum threshold of 30, ensuring a focus on high-impact contributors. Additionally, the majority of their tier publications had to fall within the Psychology domain. Beyond bibliometric metrics, scientists’ awards and achievements related to Psychology were also considered to provide a holistic view of their standing.
The D-index threshold for including top researchers is calibrated in increments of 10 based on the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline, thereby effectively capturing the top 1% of leading experts. A proximal consistency of no more than 30% difference between a scientist’s overall general H-index and their discipline-specific D-index is also required to confirm the scholar’s predominant engagement and impact in Psychology.
Verification and Validation Practices
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot fully capture the nuances of scholarly output, the Research.com team undertook rigorous manual verification of all scientist profiles. Each profile was cross-checked against a wide range of authoritative publication sources and databases to validate accuracy and relevance. While the number of publications in prestigious journals and conference proceedings does not influence a researcher’s rank placement directly, it serves as an important secondary indicator of a scientist's contributions within their domain.
The ranking position is objectively derived from each researcher’s D-index based on data meticulously compiled from OpenAlex and CrossRef, which are acknowledged as the most prominent and trustworthy bibliometric databases currently serving the academic community.
