The 2nd edition of Research.com ranking of the best scientists in the
field of Physics was created using data
combined from various data sources including OpenAlex and
CrossRef. The bibliometric data for devising the citation-based metrics were
acquired on 21-12-2022. Position in the ranking is based on a
scientist's D-index (Discipline H-index), which
takes into account only publications and citation
values for an examined discipline.

The scope of our Physics research
Research.com’s best scientists ranking is a credible
lineup of leading researchers from the field of
Physics, created using a detailed
examination of 166,880 researchers determined
from various bibliometric data sources. For the area of
Physics, more than 51178 scientists were
analysed.
What is D-index inclusion threshold for Physics
The D-index threshold for accepting a researcher to be
examined is established at 70 if
most of their publications are in the discipline of Physics. The
approval criteria for scientists to be
considered into the ranking of top researchers are based on the D-index, proportion
of the publications made within the specific field of study
as well as the awards and achievements of the scholars. The
D-index threshold for including leading researchers is
set as an increment of 10 depending on the overall number of scientists
assessed for each discipline whilst
guaranteeing that the top 1% of best researchers are
considered into the list. We estimate a proximity of
30% or less between a researcher’s general H-index and their D-index.
Additional verification methods
Because our primary mission is to ensure that only
credible researchers are included in
Research.com ranking we believe that metrics are never
supposed to be a full measure to evaluate the
contributions of scholars. Because of that
we manually verify each profile and cross-correlate it against publications in a
wide range of credible sources. Even though it’s not a
metric impacting a scholar’s position in
Research.com ranking, the number of papers published in
prominent journals and conference proceedings should form a
reliable secondary implication of their contribution to research in a
given field of study. Position in the ranking is
established using each researcher’s D-index
with the help of information collected from OpenAlex and
CrossRef, which are the most credible and well-known bibliometric
databases of this type open to the scientific community. A
comprehensive definition of our research policy
can be found on our
methodology page.
Our mission
Our objective is to motivate researchers,
companies and administrative bodies
worldwide to examine where top experts are heading
and to give a way for the whole research community to
find out who the leading experts in specific
fields of research, in various countries, or even within research
institutions are.
