The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Mathematics Scientists in Oman Ranking is primarily based on comprehensive bibliometric data sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, along with multiple other reputable data sources. These platforms collectively provide extensive and up-to-date publication and citation records, enabling an accurate assessment of scientific output. The citation-based metrics used for this ranking were collected on January 12, 2026. A scientist's position in the ranking is determined based on their D-index (Discipline H-index), which considers only those papers and citation counts specific to the Mathematics discipline, ensuring a focused evaluation of scholarly impact within the field.
Scope of Research
The ranking methodology examined a total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a wide range of bibliometric data sources across all academic disciplines, with 1,000 scientists identified specifically in Mathematics. To qualify for inclusion, each scientist was required to have a D-index of at least 30, and the majority of their tier publications needed to be in the area of Mathematics. In addition to bibliometric performance, scientists’ awards and notable achievements within the field were considered as supplementary criteria.
The D-index threshold used to identify top researchers is dynamically set in increments of 10 depending on the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline, while ensuring that the top 1% of leading researchers are always incorporated. Furthermore, it was ensured that there is a proximity of 30% or less between a scientist’s general H-index and their Mathematics-specific D-index, thus affirming their primary research contribution is within the discipline.
Verification and Additional Considerations
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute metric for evaluating scholarly output, all scientist profiles included in the ranking underwent manual verification. This process involved cross-correlating each researcher’s profile with publications cataloged in a diverse array of trustworthy and professionally curated data sources.
Although not a direct factor influencing a researcher’s rank, the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings was assessed as a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s contribution to Mathematics research. The ranking position is ultimately established via each researcher’s rigorously calculated D-index, based on data derived from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most prominent and widely recognized bibliometric databases accessible to the research community.
