A scientist’s position within the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), which reflects citation impact exclusively within the examined discipline—in this case, Engineering and Technology. The D-index specifically accounts for publications and citations pertinent to the researcher's discipline, thereby offering a focused and discipline-sensitive measure of scholarly influence.
Scope and Criteria of the Ranking
For this edition, a total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from various comprehensive bibliometric data sources across all disciplines were evaluated, among which 5 scientists specializing in Engineering and Technology were specifically examined in Lebanon. To qualify for inclusion, a scientist’s D-index had to meet or exceed a threshold of 30, with the majority of their tier publications firmly embedded within the Engineering and Technology discipline.
In addition to bibliometric criteria, scientists’ awards and notable achievements specifically related to Engineering and Technology were considered to enrich the robustness of the evaluation. The D-index thresholds are dynamically set with increments of 10 based on the estimated total number of scholars within each discipline, ensuring that the top 1% of leading experts are represented in the ranking. Furthermore, to maintain consistency and relevance, a maximum difference of 30% is allowed between a researcher’s general H-index and their D-index.
Verification Practices and Validation of Profiles
Understanding that raw bibliometric data alone cannot comprehensively capture a scholar’s research impact, the Research.com team implemented rigorous manual verification of all scientist profiles. These profiles were cross-checked against publications listed in a broad spectrum of trustworthy sources, reinforcing accuracy and credibility.
While the number of papers published in leading journals and prestigious conference proceedings does not directly influence a researcher’s ranking position, it is recognized as an important secondary indicator of contributions within a specific scientific domain. The final ranking positions are established purely based on the D-index, derived from citation data aggregated from OpenAlex and CrossRef, the most authoritative and widely accepted bibliometric databases available to the global research community.
