A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that evaluates scholarly impact solely within the examined discipline. The D-index accounts exclusively for papers and citation metrics relevant to Electronics and Electrical Engineering, thus providing a discipline-specific evaluation rather than a broader, cross-disciplinary H-index.

This edition examined a total of 279,971 scientist profiles aggregated from a variety of bibliometric databases across all scientific disciplines. To qualify for inclusion in this ranking, candidates were required to have a D-index of at least 30.

In addition, qualitative factors such as awards and notable achievements within the field were incorporated into the selection process to foster a more holistic evaluation.
The D-index threshold is designed as an increment of 10, calibrated relative to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline. This ensures a robust inclusion of the top 1% of leading experts in the ranking. Furthermore, a proximity criterion was employed, requiring that the gap between a scientist’s overall H-index and their discipline-specific D-index remain at 30% or less, thus affirming sustained research impact within Electronics and Electrical Engineering.

The Research.com research team recognizes that raw bibliometric data alone cannot comprehensively capture the scholarly output and scientific contribution of researchers. The final ranking positions are grounded in the D-index as calculated from data obtained from OpenAlex and CrossRef, which remain the most comprehensive and reliable bibliometric databases accessible to the scholarly community.
