What is D-index inclusion threshold for Economics and Finance
The D-index threshold for accepting a scientist to be examined is set to 30 if most of their publications are in the field of Economics and Finance. The acceptance factors for researchers to be considered into the ranking of top scientists are based on the D-index, ratio of the contributions made within the specific discipline in addition to the awards and achievements of the scientists. The D-index threshold for including leading scholars is set as an increment of 10 depending on the overall number of researchers estimated for each discipline whilst ensuring that the top 1% of best scientists are incorporated into the ranking. We estimate a proximity of 30% or less between a scholar’s general H-index and their D-index.

Extra verification rules
Because our main mission is to make sure that only genuine scientists are included in Research.com ranking we believe that raw data are never meant to be a complete means to quantify the work of researchers. For that reason we manually verify each profile and cross-correlate it against publications in a broad range of reliable sources. Although it’s not a metric defining a researcher’s position in the ranking, the amount of documents published in major journals and conference proceedings should constitute a credible secondary indication of their contribution to research in a specific field of study. Position in the ranking is based on every scholar’s D-index with the help of information compiled from OpenAlex and CrossRef, which are the most trustworthy and well-known bibliometric databases of this kind available to the research community. A comprehensive overview of our research procedures can be found on our methodology page.

Our agenda
Our goal is to inspire scientists, businessmen and administrative bodies around the world to investigate where prominent experts are heading and to provide an opportunity for the whole research community to find out who the leading experts in specific disciplines, in various countries, or even within research institutions are.
