Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Economics and Finance Scientists in Israel Ranking was developed using comprehensive bibliometric data primarily sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reputable academic data sources. Bibliometric data, including publication and citation metrics essential for devising the rankings, were collected on January 12, 2026. A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that includes only papers and their associated citations relevant to the examined discipline, thereby ensuring a focused and discipline-specific assessment of research impact.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
The ranking is based on an extensive examination of 279,971 scientist profiles derived from diverse bibliometric data sources across all disciplines, with a specific focus on 30 scientists in the field of Economics and Finance. To qualify for inclusion in this ranking, a scientist's D-index must be at least 30, and a majority of their tier publications must be within the domain of Economics and Finance. Additionally, the researchers’ awards and achievements relevant to this field were carefully considered as part of the evaluation process.
The threshold for the D-index is dynamically set in increments of 10 depending on the estimated total number of scholars within each discipline. This approach not only calibrates the standard to the size of the field but also guarantees that the top 1% of leading scholars are incorporated into the list. Furthermore, qualifying scientists are required to exhibit a proximity of 30% or less between their general H-index and their discipline-specific D-index, ensuring that their research impact is consistent within Economics and Finance.
Verification and Methodological Rigor
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone can never serve as an absolute measure of scholarly output, the research team undertook additional verification procedures to uphold the accuracy and reliability of the ranking. All scientist profiles were manually verified and cross-correlated against publications indexed in a wide array of trustworthy sources, confirming the validity of their contributions in Economics and Finance.
While not contributing directly to ranking placement, the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings was considered a valuable secondary signal indicative of a scientist’s influence within their field. Ultimately, the ranking positions are established strictly based on the D-index calculated from data compiled from OpenAlex and CrossRef — two of the most prominent and widely utilized bibliometric databases accessible to the global research community.
