Data Sources and Ranking Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Economics and Finance Scientists in Finland Ranking primarily relies on comprehensive bibliometric data sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, complemented by multiple other authoritative databases. These sources collectively provide a rich array of publication and citation information to underpin the ranking metrics. The bibliometric data used to derive the citation-based metrics was collected on January 12, 2026. A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), an adapted form of the traditional H-index that considers only publications and citations strictly within the examined discipline, thereby reflecting focused research impact in Economics and Finance.
Scope and Selection Criteria
This ranking examines a broad spectrum of scholarly profiles, initially analyzing 279,971 scientist records spanning all disciplines. Within this corpus, a targeted subset of 8,000 scientists specializing specifically in Economics and Finance was identified and evaluated. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a researcher’s D-index must be at least 30, and a majority of their tier publications must fall within the Economics and Finance domain. Additionally, an assessment of the scientist’s awards and recognized achievements in this discipline forms part of the evaluation process.
The D-index threshold for considering top researchers is dynamically adjusted in increments of 10 relative to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline, ensuring consistent inclusion of the top 1% of leading experts. To enhance the reliability of discipline-specific impact measurement, candidates must exhibit a proximity of 30% or less between their overall H-index and their D-index, thereby confirming a strong disciplinary focus.
Verification and Quality Assurance
The compilers of this ranking recognize that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute measure of scholarly output or impact. In response, all scientist profiles have been meticulously manually verified. This process involved cross-correlating publication records against a wide range of trustworthy sources, ensuring the accuracy of affiliation, authorship, and publication data.
While not directly influencing the researcher's rank position, the number of papers published in prestigious journals and conference proceedings is considered a valuable secondary indicator of scientific contribution within Economics and Finance. The final ranking positions are established exclusively using each researcher’s D-index, derived from the verified information aggregated from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most prominent and recognized bibliometric databases accessible to the research community.
