Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Business and Management Scientists in Hungary Ranking is grounded in comprehensive bibliometric data derived primarily from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other authoritative data sources. The citation-based metrics used in this ranking were meticulously collected on January 12, 2026, ensuring the most up-to-date and accurate reflection of scholarly impact. A researcher’s position within the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a discipline-specific variant of the traditional H-index. This metric exclusively accounts for papers and citations within the examined discipline, thereby providing a focused and relevant assessment of a scientist’s expertise and influence in Business and Management.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
The ranking is based on an extensive evaluation of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from various bibliometric sources across all scientific disciplines. Within this pool, 2,000 scientists specifically associated with Business and Management were analyzed. To qualify for inclusion in the Business and Management ranking, candidates were required to have a D-index of at least 30, reflecting a substantive and sustained impact in the discipline. Additionally, the majority of a qualifying scientist’s tier publications needed to be within the Business and Management domain, underscoring specialization within the field.
Recognizing the diversity in discipline sizes, the D-index threshold for top researchers is adjusted in increments of 10 relative to the estimated total number of scholars per discipline. This approach ensures that the ranking consistently encompasses the top 1% of leading experts. Furthermore, to maintain alignment between general scholarly impact and discipline-specific expertise, only scientists whose general H-index and D-index differ by 30% or less were considered. Awards and notable achievements within Business and Management also contributed qualitatively to the selection process, further refining the pool of distinguished researchers.
Verification and Validation Practices
Understanding the limitations of raw bibliometric data, the Research.com team undertook thorough manual verification of all scientist profiles included in the ranking. Each profile was cross-correlated against publications indexed in a broad array of trustworthy and reputable sources. This rigorous process aims to minimize inaccuracies and enhance the credibility of the rankings. While not directly influencing the ranking position, the volume of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings serves as a valuable secondary indicator of a researcher’s contribution to Business and Management scholarship.
The ranking position is ultimately established through the D-index based on data from OpenAlex and CrossRef, which are among the most respected and widely recognized bibliometric databases accessible to the global research community.
