Data Sources and Metrics Used for the Ranking
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Business and Management Scientists in Chile Ranking is primarily based on data aggregated from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented with multiple other reputable bibliometric data sources. These platforms provide comprehensive, citation-based metrics essential for objectively assessing scholarly impact. The bibliometric data underpinning this ranking were collected as of January 12, 2026. A researcher’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that exclusively accounts for publications and citations within the specific discipline under review, ensuring that the ranking accurately reflects a scholar's impact in Business and Management.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
In constructing this ranking, 279,971 scientist profiles were initially examined across a broad spectrum of disciplines. From this extensive pool, profiles from 1,367 scientists specializing in Business and Management were closely analyzed. To qualify for inclusion, a scientist’s D-index had to meet a minimum threshold of 30, with the majority of their tier publications concentrated in the Business and Management domain. Furthermore, distinguished awards and recognized achievements within the field were factored into the evaluation.
The D-index threshold is set dynamically, increasing in increments of 10 relative to the estimated total number of scholars per discipline. This methodology ensures inclusion of the top 1% of leading scholars, maintaining both rigor and comprehensiveness. Additionally, eligibility requires a close correlation—specifically, a proximity of 30% or less—between a scientist’s overall H-index and their D-index, reinforcing the focus on specialized, discipline-specific excellence.
Verification and Validation Practices
The team responsible for this ranking rigorously acknowledges that raw bibliometric data are not, on their own, definitive tools for evaluating scholarly output. Accordingly, all scientist profiles underwent manual verification and were cross-correlated against publications catalogued in an array of trustworthy academic sources to confirm authenticity and accuracy.
While the volume of publications in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence the ranking position, it serves as a valuable secondary indicator of a researcher’s contributions to their field. The ranking’s primary metric, the D-index, is established from up-to-date information sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, widely recognized as leading bibliometric databases available to the global research community.
