Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Biology and Biochemistry Scientists in Turkey Ranking has been developed primarily using comprehensive bibliometric data from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reputable data sources. These databases are widely recognized for their extensive and up-to-date coverage of scholarly publications and citation records across disciplines. The bibliometric data used to calculate the citation-based metrics for this ranking were collected on January 12, 2026. Each scientist’s position is determined according to their D-index (Discipline H-index), a specialized metric that includes only papers and citation counts relevant to the specific discipline under examination, ensuring a focused and accurate assessment of scientific contribution within Biology and Biochemistry.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
For this ranking, a total of 188,046 scientist profiles identified from diverse bibliometric data sources across all scientific disciplines were analyzed. Within this pool, 12 scientists from the domain of Biology and Biochemistry were specifically scrutinized. To qualify for inclusion, a scientist’s D-index had to be at least 40, and the majority of their tier publications were required to be within the field of Biology and Biochemistry. Additionally, researchers’ awards and relevant achievements in this discipline were taken into consideration to ensure a holistic evaluation.
The threshold for the D-index varies by discipline, increasing in increments of 10 based on the estimated total number of scholars in that field. This approach guarantees that the top 1% of leading scholars in each discipline are represented in the ranking. Furthermore, to maintain consistency with a researcher’s overall impact, the disparity between a scientist’s general H-index and their discipline-specific D-index must be 30% or less.
Additional Verification and Quality Assurance
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot capture the full scope and nuance of scholarly output, all scientist profiles included in this ranking were manually verified by experienced researchers. Verification involved cross-referencing publication records against a wide range of trustworthy academic sources. While a researcher’s position is primarily determined by their D-index calculated from OpenAlex and CrossRef, the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings serves as a valuable secondary indicator of scientific influence within Biology and Biochemistry, though it does not directly affect ranking positions.
OpenAlex and CrossRef are among the most prominent and dependable bibliometric databases available to the research community, lending high credibility to the data underpinning this ranking. For further details regarding the comprehensive methodology employed, please consult our methodology page.
