Data Sources and Ranking Methodology
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Biology and Biochemistry Scientists in Iceland Ranking is based on a comprehensive collection of bibliometric data primarily sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reliable data repositories. The citation-based metrics used to devise this ranking were collected on January 12, 2026, ensuring the information reflects the most recent and accurate scholarly output available. A researcher’s position within the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a metric that considers only publications and citation data relevant to the specific discipline under examination, thereby offering a precise measure of impact within Biology and Biochemistry.
Scope of Research and Eligibility Criteria
A total of 188,046 scientist profiles spanning all research disciplines were examined from diverse bibliometric data sources. Within this comprehensive dataset, 7 scientists specializing in Biology and Biochemistry in Iceland were identified for further consideration. To qualify for inclusion in this ranking, a scientist’s D-index had to be at least 40, reflecting a substantial level of contribution within the field. Furthermore, a majority of the scholar’s tier publications had to be predominantly in Biology and Biochemistry. Additional considerations included awards and significant achievements specifically related to this discipline.
The D-index threshold is dynamically adjusted in increments of 10 according to the estimated population size of scholars within each discipline, with the intent to ensure inclusion of the top 1% of leading experts. To maintain disciplinary relevance, the ranking incorporates only those researchers whose general H-index and D-index differ by no more than 30%, securing proximity between general academic influence and specialized impact.
Additional Verification and Quality Assurance
Understanding that raw bibliometric data alone cannot comprehensively evaluate a scholar's output, the Research.com team undertook a rigorous manual verification process for all scientist profiles. This included cross-correlation of publication records against numerous trustworthy publication sources to confirm accuracy and integrity. While not a direct factor in ranking placement, the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings is acknowledged as an important secondary indicator reflecting a scientist’s research contribution within the field.
The final positions in the ranking were established exclusively based on each researcher’s D-index derived from data aggregated by OpenAlex and CrossRef—arguably the most prominent and respected bibliometric databases accessible to the research community today.
