Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Scientists in Sweden Ranking was constructed using extensive bibliometric data primarily sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, alongside multiple complementary data repositories. These leading bibliometric platforms provide comprehensive and reliable citation information, which was collected on January 12, 2026, to devise the citation-based metrics underpinning the ranking. The positioning of each scientist in the ranking is determined by their H-index, a widely recognized metric reflecting both the productivity and citation impact of a researcher’s published work.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
This ranking examined 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a broad array of bibliometric data sources, encompassing all major scientific disciplines. To ensure relevance and rigor in the assessment, qualifying H-index thresholds were established specifically for each research area, typically set at levels of 30 or 40 depending on the discipline’s citation norms and publication patterns. Additionally, researchers’ awards and recognized achievements within their respective fields were factored into the evaluation process. The final published list is highly selective, featuring only the top 1,000 scientists in Sweden with the highest H-index values.
Verification and Methodological Rigor
We recognize that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute measure of a scholar’s research contributions. Accordingly, all scientist profiles included in the ranking underwent manual verification and were cross-correlated against publications documented in a diverse range of reputable and trustworthy sources. While a researcher’s position in the ranking is established solely on their H-index as derived from OpenAlex and CrossRef — the preeminent bibliometric databases accessible to the research community — we also acknowledge the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings as a valuable secondary indicator of scientific contribution.
