Each institution’s position in the ranking is determined by aggregating the D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all recognized scholars affiliated with that university, whose primary publication area is Electronics and Electrical Engineering. The D-index gives exclusive consideration to publications and citations strictly within the evaluated discipline, ensuring a high degree of relevance and specificity in assessing scholarly impact.
Scope of Research and Scientist Evaluation Criteria
This edition is based on a thorough analysis of 279,971 scientist profiles aggregated from a broad spectrum of bibliometric data sources. Out of these, 44,264 scientist profiles specializing in Electronics and Electrical Engineering were subjected to further scrutiny.
To ensure the academic rigor of our ranking, a qualifying D-index threshold of 30 was established for scientists, and only those whose majority of key publications were in the field of Electronics and Electrical Engineering were included. Additionally, recognition for significant awards and achievements in this domain was taken into account.
For identifying the most influential scholars, the D-index threshold was adjustable in increments of 10, tailored to the estimated size of each discipline, while maintaining the inclusion of the top 1% of researchers worldwide. An additional criterion required a proximity of 30% or less between a scientist’s overall H-index and their discipline-specific D-index, further reinforcing the alignment of their scholarly impact with the evaluated area of specialization.
Verification Practices and Data Integrity
We recognize that raw bibliometric data alone cannot wholly capture the breadth and depth of scholarly contributions. Consequently, we employed rigorous manual verification and cross-checking processes for every scientist profile considered in the ranking. Each profile’s publications were correlated with records in a comprehensive array of reliable sources to ensure consistency and accuracy.
While the number of papers in prestigious journals and conference proceedings is not directly factored into a researcher's position in the Research.com ranking, it serves as an important secondary indicator of their influence and standing within the scientific community. Final positions are established using each scholar’s H-index, as drawn from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most authoritative and widely-recognized bibliometric databases available to the research sector.
