Best Biology and Biochemistry Universities in the World 2023

The 2nd edition of Research.com ranking of the best universities in the discipline of Biology and Biochemistry was created using data consolidated from various data sources including OpenAlex and CrossRef. The bibliometric data for devising the citation-based metrics were collected on 21-12-2022. Position in the ranking is based on a sum of D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all ranking researcher’s affiliated with a given institution. D-index only includes publications and citation values for an examined discipline.

The scope of our Biology and Biochemistry research
Research.com’s best universities ranking is a trustworthy list of leading scientists from the discipline of Biology and Biochemistry, based on a thorough study of 166,880 researchers discovered from multiple bibliometric data sources. For the field of Biology and Biochemistry, over 67599 researchers were investigated.

What is D-index acceptance threshold for Biology and Biochemistry
The D-index threshold for including a scientist to be evaluated is established at 40 if most of their publications are in the discipline of Biology and Biochemistry. The acceptance factors for researchers to be considered into the ranking of top researchers are based on the D-index, proportion of the contributions made within the specific field of study plus the awards and achievements of the scholars. The D-index threshold for considering best scholars is set as an increment of 10 depending on the overall number of researchers assessed for each discipline whilst guaranteeing that the top 1% of best researchers are incorporated into the ranking. There should be a proximity of 30% or less between a researcher’s general H-index and their D-index.

Extra verification methods
Since our main aim is to guarantee that only credible scientists are listed in our ranking we believe that metrics are never meant to be a complete means to assess the output of scientists. This is why we manually inspect every profile and cross-correlate it against publications in a varied range of reliable sources. While it’s not a factor contributing to a scholar’s position in our ranking, the amount of papers published in well-known journals and conference proceedings should form a valuable secondary indication of their contribution to research in a selected discipline. Position in the ranking is established using each researcher’s D-index using data collected from OpenAlex and CrossRef, which are the most credible and well-established bibliometric databases of this kind open to the research community. A thorough definition of our research policy can be found on our methodology page.

Our agenda
Our mission is to inspire scholars, businessmen and decision-makers worldwide to investigate where top experts are heading and to give an opportunity for the whole scientific community to find out who the leading experts in specific areas of study, in various countries, or even within research institutions are.
