Data Sources and Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Social Sciences and Humanities Scientists in Thailand Ranking is primarily based on bibliometric data sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, complemented by multiple other reputable data repositories. To ensure the accuracy and relevance of citation-based metrics, all data used to devise the rankings were collected on January 12, 2026. A scientist’s position within the ranking is determined by the D-index (Discipline H-index), a specialized metric that reflects a researcher’s impact within a specific discipline by including only those papers and citations that are relevant to the examined field.
Scope and Selection Criteria
The ranking comprehensively evaluated 279,971 scientist profiles aggregated from a wide array of bibliometric data sources across all disciplines, with a focused examination of 4,152 scientists specifically within the Social Sciences and Humanities domain. To qualify for inclusion, a scientist must have attained a minimum D-index of 30, with the majority of their tier publications clearly affiliated with Social Sciences and Humanities. Furthermore, awards and notable achievements in this field were also taken into account as supplementary indicators of scholarly distinction.
The threshold for D-index eligibility is set with increments of 10, calibrated according to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline. This method ensures inclusion of the top 1% of leading experts while maintaining rigorous standards for excellence. Additionally, the ranking accounts for consistency between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index, requiring these metrics to be within 30% proximity to confirm their focused impact in the discipline.
Verification and Validation Practices
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data cannot singularly capture the full scope of scholarly output and influence, the Research.com team implemented thorough manual verification processes. Each scientist’s profile was cross-correlated against publications indexed in diverse, trustworthy sources to ensure accuracy and avoid erroneous attributions.
While not a factor in determining the ranking position, the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings was considered a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s contribution to their field. Ultimately, the ranking position is conclusively established through each researcher’s D-index based on data from OpenAlex and CrossRef, which represent some of the most authoritative and widely respected bibliometric databases available in the scientific community.
