Scope of Research and Eligibility Criteria
The ranking methodology examined 279,971 scientist profiles aggregated across diverse bibliometric databases, covering all scientific disciplines. Within this corpus, 6,000 scientists specializing in Physics were specifically identified and analyzed.
To qualify for inclusion in the Physics ranking, a scientist's D-index had to meet a minimum threshold of 70, ensuring the featured researchers demonstrate significant scholarly impact within their discipline. Additionally, the majority of a qualifying scientist’s tier publications must be in the area of Physics, reflecting a focused and sustained contribution to the field. The consideration of awards and achievements in Physics further supplements the evaluation process to highlight recognized excellence.
The D-index threshold is dynamically established with increments of 10, proportional to the estimated total number of scholars per discipline. This approach guarantees the inclusion of the top 1% of leading experts in each domain. Moreover, to ensure consistency in disciplinary focus, a proximity measure requires that the difference between a scientist's general H-index and their D-index does not exceed 30%.
