Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Physics Scientists in Morocco Ranking is primarily based on bibliometric data collected from OpenAlex and CrossRef, two of the most prominent and widely recognized bibliometric databases available to the research community. In addition to these, multiple other reputable data sources were also utilized to ensure a comprehensive dataset. The citation-based metrics used to determine the ranking were compiled on January 12, 2026, guaranteeing the inclusion of the most up-to-date and accurate scholarly information. A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a metric that exclusively considers papers and citations pertinent to the examined discipline—Physics in this case—thereby providing a refined and discipline-specific representation of academic impact.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
The ranking examined a comprehensive dataset encompassing 188,172 scientist profiles extracted from various bibliometric data sources across all disciplines. Within this vast pool, 1,000 scientists specializing specifically in Physics were identified for inclusion. To qualify, a scientist’s D-index needed to meet a minimum threshold of 70, with the majority of their tier publications being within the field of Physics. In addition to bibliometric measures, scientists’ awards and achievements relevant to the discipline were also factored into the evaluation. The threshold for the D-index is dynamically adjusted in increments of 10 depending on the total number of scholars estimated for each discipline, ensuring that approximately the top 1% of leading experts are captured in the ranking. Moreover, to maintain disciplinary relevance, the proximity between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index must not exceed 30%, thus confirming a strong specialization profile.
Verification and Additional Evaluation Practices
Understanding that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute measure of scientific output, the research team placed great emphasis on thorough manual verification of all scientist profiles. Each profile was meticulously cross-correlated with publications listed in a wide range of trustworthy sources, reinforcing the integrity and accuracy of the ranking. While the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence the researcher’s position in the ranking, it serves as a valuable secondary indicator of their substantive contribution to the field of Physics. Hence, the ranking results presented here reflect a careful balance of quantitative D-index metrics derived from robust bibliometric data and qualitative verification efforts.
