Data Sources and Methodology
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Mathematics Scientists in Poland Ranking is primarily based on comprehensive bibliometric data collected from leading sources including OpenAlex and CrossRef, complemented by multiple other reputable data repositories. The citation-based metrics that underpin the ranking were compiled on 2026-01-12, ensuring the most current and relevant data for evaluation. A scientist's position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a specialized metric which accounts exclusively for publications and citation metrics within the examined discipline, in this case, Mathematics. This discipline-specific approach ensures an accurate reflection of a researcher’s impact and relevance within their field.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
The ranking encompasses a broad examination of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from various bibliometric data sources across all scientific disciplines. Specifically, for the field of Mathematics, 24 scientists met the rigorous criteria established for inclusion. To qualify for the ranking, a researcher’s D-index had to be at least 30, and the majority of their tier publications were required to be within the area of Mathematics. Additionally, notable awards and achievements in Mathematics were factored into the assessment to further validate the researcher’s influence in the discipline.
The threshold for the D-index is dynamically adjusted, increasing in increments of 10 relative to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline. This method guarantees inclusion of the top 1% of leading researchers within each field. Furthermore, a proximity criterion is applied such that the difference between a scientist’s overall H-index and their D-index does not exceed 30%, ensuring a focus on disciplinary impact rather than general scholarly activity.
Verification and Quality Control
The team behind this ranking acknowledges that raw bibliometric data alone cannot comprehensively represent the output and contributions of scholars. Accordingly, all scientist profiles were subjected to meticulous manual verification and cross-referenced against a wide range of trustworthy publications and citation sources. While the number of publications in prestigious journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence a researcher’s ranking position, it serves as a valuable secondary indicator of their contributions to the advancement of knowledge within their specialized area.
The final ranking position is established using each scientist’s D-index derived specifically from OpenAlex and CrossRef, which stand as the most prominent and widely recognized bibliometric databases accessible to the research community.
