Data Sources and Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Economics and Finance Scientists in Pakistan Ranking is primarily based on bibliometric data collected from OpenAlex and CrossRef, alongside multiple supplementary data sources. These platforms represent some of the most comprehensive and widely recognized repositories of scholarly metadata, ensuring high-quality and up-to-date information integral to the ranking process. The bibliometric data used to compute citation-based metrics were collected on January 12, 2026.
A scientist’s position within the ranking is determined by the D-index (Discipline H-index), a discipline-specific variant of the traditional H-index. The D-index exclusively includes publications and citation metrics relevant to the specific discipline under examination, providing a focused and accurate measure of scholarly impact within Economics and Finance.
Scope of Research and Eligibility Criteria
The ranking is derived from an extensive examination of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from diverse bibliometric data sources across all scientific disciplines. Within this large dataset, 10 scientists specifically contributing to the fields of Economics and Finance were analyzed. To qualify for inclusion:
- A scientist's D-index needed to be at least 30.
- The majority of tier publications had to be situated within Economics and Finance.
- Consideration was given to additional awards and achievements relevant to Economics and Finance.
The threshold for the D-index is dynamically adjusted in increments of 10 based on the total estimated number of scholars in each discipline, ensuring the incorporation of approximately the top 1% of leading researchers. Furthermore, the proximity between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index is maintained at 30% or less to verify discipline-specific research prominence.
Verification and Methodological Rigor
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot precisely capture the full scope and quality of scholarly output, all scientist profiles included in the ranking underwent manual verification and cross-correlation against publications indexed in a broad range of trusted sources. This meticulous approach guarantees the accuracy and reliability of the information presented.
While not directly influencing ranking positions, the quantity of papers published in high-impact journals and prestigious conference proceedings is regarded as a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s research contribution within their specific domain.
Positions in the ranking are officially established based on each researcher’s D-index, calculated from data drawn predominantly from OpenAlex and CrossRef — the most prominent bibliometric databases accessible to the global research community.
