Data Sources and Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Economics and Finance Scientists in Greece Ranking is primarily based on comprehensive bibliometric data gathered from several authoritative sources, most notably OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple additional reliable data repositories. The citation-based metrics that underpin this ranking were collected and consolidated as of January 12, 2026. A scientist’s position in the ranking reflects their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that exclusively considers papers and citations relevant to the examined discipline, thereby offering a focused evaluation of each researcher’s impact within Economics and Finance.
Scope of Research Considered
The ranking encompasses an extensive corpus of 279,971 scientist profiles derived from various bibliometric databases across all disciplines, with a focused subset of 1,616 scientists identified specifically in Economics and Finance. Eligibility for inclusion required a minimum D-index of 30, alongside the criterion that the majority of a scientist’s tier publications are situated within the Economics and Finance domain. Additionally, significant awards and achievements within this field were taken into consideration to refine the assessment.
The threshold for the D-index used to delineate top researchers adjusts in increments of 10, contingent upon the estimated total number of scholars within each discipline, ensuring that the top 1% of leading experts are consistently encompassed. Furthermore, a proximity of 30% or less between a scientist’s overall H-index and their discipline-specific D-index was required to confirm the alignment of their general research impact with their specialized contributions.
Verification and Validation Practices
We recognize that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute measure of scholarly output or impact. Accordingly, every scientist profile included in the ranking underwent meticulous manual verification and was cross-validated against publications indexed in a broad array of trustworthy databases and sources. While not a direct factor influencing ranking position, the volume of papers published in prestigious journals and conference proceedings was also reviewed as a valuable secondary indicator of a researcher’s contribution to specific scientific areas.
The final positions in the ranking were established exclusively based on the D-index calculated from data retrieved from OpenAlex and CrossRef — two of the most prominent and respected bibliometric platforms available to the global research community.
