Sources of Data and Ranking Criteria
The 4th edition of the Research.com Best Scientists in Taiwan Ranking is built upon a robust foundation of bibliometric data primarily sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reputable data sources. To devise the citation-based metrics used in this ranking, comprehensive bibliometric data were meticulously collected as of 2024-11-27. Each scientist's position in the ranking is determined based on their H-index, reflecting both the productivity and citation impact of their scholarly publications.
Scope of Research Considered
The ranking encompasses a broad scope, analyzing 279,971 scientist profiles identified from an array of bibliometric data sources, spanning all major scientific disciplines. The qualifying H-index threshold was established separately for each research area, generally set at 30 or 40 to ensure appropriate recognition of excellence within diverse fields. Importantly, in addition to citation metrics, each scientist’s awards and achievements in their respective areas of study were also considered. Out of all examined profiles, only the top 1,000 scientists with the highest H-index are featured in the published ranking.
Verification and Additional Evaluation Practices
Research.com’s team recognizes that quantitative data alone should not serve as the sole metric for evaluating a scholar's output. To uphold the highest standards of credibility, all scientist profiles that appear in the ranking underwent manual verification. Profiles were rigorously cross-referenced with publications from a wide range of verified and trustworthy sources. While the total number of papers published in leading journals and conference proceedings is not a direct factor in a scientist’s placement, it is acknowledged as a valuable secondary indicator of their broader contribution to their field.
The final position in the ranking is determined strictly using each researcher’s H-index, as certified by data aggregated from OpenAlex and CrossRef — the most respected and widely used bibliometric databases available to the global research community.
